What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a severe, multi-system, and inflammation related autoimmune condition that could trigger an attack to the joints. It is an extremely severe and hurtful condition that can cause loss of mobility due to the pain and joint damage. Rheumatoid arthritis is systemic and may even affect several tissues through the body, skin, arteries, heart, lungs and muscles. Arthritis rheumatoid will threaten anyone between the ages of 20 and 40 and could start anytime. A family history is important to the risk. It is 3 times more usual in women vs males, and up to four times more prevalent in smokers than non-smokers.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

The warning signs will separate arthritis rheumatoid from other types of joint disease because of the swelling and soft tissue swelling of several joints simultaneously. This is known as polyarthritis. The joints are generally damaged asymmetrically and then will move on to the symmetrical aspect as the disease goes on. It is not like the other kinds of joint disease such as osteoarthritis, due to the fact the ache will move while using the joints that are impacted.

As the disorder continues, the inflammatory behavior will lead to the break down and damage of the joints that would impair their range of movement and cause some deformity. The fingers and the bones will deviate out and towards the small finger and then take on unnatural shapes. The deformities in patients that are coping with arthritis rheumatoid will include the Boutonniere deformity, the swan neck deformity, and the “Z-thumb” deformity.

Due to the fact that arthritis rheumatoid is a multi-system disease, the other illness and conditions may form resulting from it. Some individuals that experience arthritis rheumatoid will also experience anemia. Anemia is a problem of the red blood cells because there are insufficient of them and/or the hemoglobin, and this will increase the risk for lower likelihood of oxygen to be delivered to the tissues. It is a serious disease and many will suffer from it and splenomegaly or the enlarging of the spleen. Felty’s syndrome and Sjogren’s syndrome are autoimmune disorders in which the cells attack and damage the exocrine glands that generate salvia and tears. Dermatological will impact nodules on exterior surfaces. Fibrosis may take place in the lungs anytime or caused by different treatments.

There are numerous techniques for diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis. Having stiffness in the morning that continues for longer than 60 minutes is an example, as is the arthritis and soft tissue swelling for more than three out of 14 joints or in the joint groups. Arthritis of hand joints such as symmetric arthritis, subcutaneous nodules in specific places, a rheumatoid factor at a level above 95th place and radiological changes that indicate signs of joint erosion, are some of the criteria. There are at least four of these factors that must be matched in order to establish a diagnoses.

The treatment methods for arthritis rheumatoid are going to be placed in disease modifying arthrirheumatic drugs or (DMARDS), anti inflammatory agents and analgesics. DMARDS is known to begin durable remissions and delay the disease activity, stopping bone and joint injury as well. Anti inflammatory agents and analgesics can help to reduce pain and stiffness. However, it does not stop any damage or slow down the disease in any way.
